Roller Derby.
What IS roller derby? And where's the ball?
Roller derby is a full contact sport played on quad roller skates. It’s an all women sport, although men often take on the all important role of referee. Games last an hour, with two 30 minute halves. Five skaters from a team take to the track for two minute ‘jams’. For each team, there are four blockers and one jammer. The jammer’s objective is to make it through the pack of blockers, become lead jammer and score points for each opposing player she passes from the second time through the pack. Blockers must help their own jammer through the pack, and stop the opposing jammer. Jams are over when the lead jammer calls it off, or the two minutes are up. Oh .. and there's NO ball!

Who is LCRD?Latrobe City Roller Derby was formed in July 2010, initially with just 10 skaters and has bloomed to nearly 30 full time skaters. LCRD trains twice a week at Stadium 34 and follows the rules of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association. Skaters with LCRD must sit for, and pass, four assessment levels, or ‘stars’ before they can legally play in their first game. The league has recently just formed its first team, Mega Hertz and we are the FIRST roller derby league in Gippsland!
